🔒 Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 6th, 2026.
This document outlines the data practices associated with the use of the Shiru application, referred to as "the application."
Local Storage of Basic Metadata
The application stores basic metadata locally that is essential for its operation. This includes:
- Torrent file information such as file names, sizes, and structure
- Magnet links or content URLs
- Information related to the download and upload status of files
- User settings and preferences
- Cached anime metadata from AniList and MyAnimeList for offline access
Third-Party Services
AniList
The application interfaces with AniList (see AniList Terms). Please refer to AniList's privacy policy to understand how that service manages your data. Authentication tokens are stored locally and refreshed automatically to maintain your session.
MyAnimeList
The application interfaces with MyAnimeList (see MyAnimeList Terms). Please refer to MyAnimeList's privacy policy to understand how that service manages your data. Authorization tokens expire after 31 days of inactivity and are refreshed automatically every two weeks to prevent this.
Discord
If Discord Rich Presence is enabled, the application communicates with the Discord client installed on your device to display your current activity. No data is sent to Discord's servers directly by Shiru; this communication is handled locally via the Discord IPC protocol.
Non-Usage and Non-Sharing of User Data
The application does not utilize or share user data. Personal information is not tracked, stored, or processed in any manner beyond what is required for the application to function.
Absence of User Action Tracking
The application does not employ mechanisms for tracking or analyzing user actions. User activities within the application are not monitored, logged externally, or shared with any third party.
Data Exposed by the Peer-to-Peer Protocol
The application exposes only the data required by the underlying peer-to-peer protocol to function. This includes:
- IP addresses of connected peers
- Piece information for data integrity verification
- Content-related metadata for establishing connections
It is important to note that this data can be observed by other participants in the peer-to-peer network. This exposure is inherent to how the protocol functions and is beyond the control of the application. If this is a concern, consider using a VPN.
Security Measures
The application implements security measures to protect locally stored metadata and prevent unauthorized access. Data stored by the application remains on your device and is not transmitted to any external server operated by Shiru.
Updates to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect changes in operational practices. Users are encouraged to review the policy for any modifications. Continued use of the application implies acceptance of the updated policy.
